Free lunches & the best day ever

NorthCountry Federal Credit Union partners with Kasasa and Charlie Rocket’s Dream Machine for Best Day Ever event

On Friday, November 3, 2023, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Kasasa and the Dream Machine, is participating in the Best Day Ever, a nationwide initiative to generate 100,000 acts of kindness in a single day. This is the first time community banks and credit unions have collaborated for a nationwide event, demonstrating their local impact and the scale of their network.

In Vermont:  Six locations. 300 acts of kindness.

Locally, NorthCountry will be contributing to the 100,000 acts of kindness nationwide by paying for peoples’ lunches at six businesses beginning at around 11am on Friday, November 3, 2023.

  1. Barre - Espresso Bueno, 248 North Main St.

When downtown Barre flooded in July, Espresso Bueno was one of the few businesses able to remain open. It is located near the credit union’s Barre branch.

  1. Colchester - Three Brothers Pizza & Grill, 973 Roosevelt Hwy

Locally owned Three Brothers is a lunchtime hotspot located near the credit union’s Colchester branch. Of the six locations, this one is expected to be the busiest.

  1. Johnson - Jenna’s Coffee House / Two Sons Bakehouse, 38 Main St.

A few miles from the credit union’s Morrisville branch, Jenna’s Coffee House supports Jenna’s Promise, an organization dedicated to removing barriers to recovery from addiction.

  1. North Hero - Harborside Harvest Market, 8986 US Route

Harborside provides Island residents with access to fresh groceries, fishing licenses, firewood, clothing, gas, and more.

  1. Orleans - Olney’s General Store, 72 Main St.

When flooding temporarily closed the Ethan Allen factory in Orleans this past summer, its workers found themselves unexpectedly furloughed for months. Some are still waiting to return. The flood also impacted NorthCountry, the village’s only financial institution.

  1. Richford - Main Street Market, 44 Main St.

In 2020, when Richford faced the loss of its only grocery store, the town’s healthcare center stepped in and saved it. When Richford’s only financial institution closed, NorthCountry answered the town’s call for help by opening a branch in Richford this past spring.

Kasasa, which offers free reward checking accounts exclusively at community banks and credit unions, and the Dream Machine, founded by Charlie Rocket, have joined with community financial institutions across the country with the goal of performing 100,000 acts kindness in a single day.

NorthCountry’s local events are its contribution to the nationwide effort aimed at showcasing the significance of community banks and credit unions. It demonstrates how these institutions are integral to the communities they serve. This event also underscores the scale of the Kasasa network of community banks and credit unions, which combined represents the fourth largest branch banking network in the country.

"We are excited to be a part of the Best Day Ever to demonstrate how we make a difference in our communities," said Bob Morgan, CEO of NorthCountry Federal Credit Union. "We believe in the power of community and the importance of human connection in banking. Through this event, we hope to inspire more to join us and in making a meaningful impact in other people’s lives."
